Assessment That Reflects Real Growth
Assessment in CBC Junior School moves beyond the single end-of-year examination. At ADPA, we use a multi-dimensional approach to track and support learner growth — giving both teachers and parents a full, honest picture of where each learner stands and what they need next.
Formative Assessment Continuous assessment through classwork, oral contributions, projects, practicals, and teacher observation. This is how we catch gaps early and intervene before they become barriers.
Summative Assessment End-of-topic and end-of-term tests that consolidate learning and give measurable benchmarks of academic progress across all learning areas.
Project-Based Assessment The CBC places significant weight on projects — individual and group — that require learners to research, create, present, and defend their work. This develops higher-order thinking, communication, and self-direction.
Learner Portfolios Each Junior School learner maintains a portfolio of their work — a living record of their growth, creativity, and competency development across their three years at this level.
End-of-Term Reports Comprehensive, subject-by-subject reports are issued every term. Our reports are written to be genuinely useful to parents — describing not just grades, but attitudes, effort, areas of strength, and specific recommendations for continued growth.
Parent-Teacher Engagement We maintain open, regular communication with parents — because what happens at home matters as much as what happens at school, especially during the adolescent years.
Life Outside The Classroom

Transition to Senior School

The culmination of our Junior School programme is a Grade 9 completer who is academically prepared, personally grounded, and ready to step confidently into Senior School — wherever that may be.
By the time a learner completes Grade 9 at ADPA, they will have:
• Covered the full CBC Junior School curriculum with rigour and integrity
• Developed strong competency in core academic disciplines
• Built research, project management, and presentation skills
• Deepened their understanding of their own interests, strengths, and goals
• Cultivated character traits — discipline, empathy, resilience, and integrity — that no exam can assess but every institution and employer values
• Earned the Kenya Certificate of Junior School Education (KJSE) — the nationally recognised qualification at the end of Grade 9
